3rd Annual VASM
Confernce
Make plans now to attend
our 2011 Annual Meeting, which will be held on Friday,
November 4th at the Short Pump
Hilton in Richmond, Virginia. The program agenda
demonstrates a remarkable breadth of topics that are of significance
and real interest to our practice of sleep medicine.

We have attracted fine speakers both from the Commonwealth and
beyond:
- Safwan Badr, MD, Division
Chief, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep
Medicine at Wayne State University's School of Medicine will be
our Keynote Speaker. He will discuss Sleep
Apnea: Gaps and Controversies and the new ABSM sleep tech exam;
- David J. Leszczyszyn, MD,
Associate Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics and Medical
Director at the VCUHS Center for Sleep Medicine will discuss Pre-op Sleep Apnea Screening at VCU;
- Madhukar Kaloji, MD from
Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Consultants in Virginia Beach
will update us on Sleep Problems in Patients with
Pulmonary Diseases;
- Edward Grandi, Executive
Director of the American Sleep Apnea Association will give two
talks. He will discuss the ASAA's advocacy efforts
(during the general session) and AWAKE
(during the tech breakout session);
- Hetzal Hartley, MD, a Carilion
Clinic Occupational Medicine physician will address Sleep Evaluation and Truckers;
- Robert Vorona, MD, Medical
Director at the EVMS Division of Sleep Medicine will discuss School Start Times;
- Jon Russell, MD, PhD from the
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio will
focus on Pain and Sleep;
- Larry Sanford, PhD, Associate
Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School, will address Stress-related emotion and sleep.
We will also have breakout
sessions for the sleep technologists and sleep
technicians.
The meeting promises
to be interesting and informative. We hope that you will make plans

VASM Lauches NEW Web site
Please take a moment to
visit our NEW Web site.
The site was developed to promote and enhance
communication with our members and to provide our members and others
with easy to access information about VASM. Utilizing the web for
communications allows us to spend more of the academy funds for
projects and activities which matter the most to our chapter members.
The new Web site offers expanded content as well
as new features such as online dues payments, meeting registration
and application for membership.
We welcome your comments, questions, feedback, and,
most importantly, your participation in our organization.
